Learning organization

Learning organization is an organization skilled at

1)      creating, acquiring, interpreting, transferring, and retaining knowledge

2)      acting and modifying behavior on that new knowledge or insights

Learning organizations have the processes, climate, and leadership behaviors.

The rate at which org and individuals learn may well become the only sustainable competitive advantage.  Products can be copied, processes can be copied, services can be copied but if you're learning more rapidly than the competition you can get ahead and stay ahead.  The world is changing, we have a more global environment, industry boundaries are collapsing, regulated businesses are becoming deregulated, there are new business models.  If your rate of learning isn't greater than that rate of change you're going to fall behind.

~Ray Stata, former CEO of Analog Devices
